Historic Preservation
The PVPC has been providing historic preservation services to Western Massachusetts for over 30 years. Services include federal and state regulatory compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, comprehensive historic resource surveys (including field work, eligibility determinations, context research, and final report preparation), historic research and National Register nominations; local historic district guidelines; city and town preservation plans; and assistance with Historic Tax Credit Certification Applications. We also provide Local Technical Assistance for Historic Commissions, Historic District Commissions, and other municipal groups in the region on a variety of preservation topics.
Recent projects include National Register nominations for three municipally owned cemeteries in Wilbraham; survey work and National Register nominations in Amherst; tax credit application preparation in Holyoke and Easthampton; and historic compliance for housing rehabilitation projects throughout the region as part of PVPC’s Community Development Block Grant work.
Historic District Appeals Process
The Pioneer Valley Planning Commission (PVPC) has recently updated its Historic District Commission Appeals Process, in accordance with Massachusetts General Law.
The Request for Review form includes information on the background of this law, details about how to initiate the process, and the cost of the filing fee for the applicant, abutter, or other aggrieved party. The form is available here through the PVPC web site or in hard copy at our office at 60 Congress Street in Springfield.
For questions about the Request for Review process or any other questions regarding PVPCs Historic Preservation services, contact PVPC Historic Preservation Planner and designated reviewer, Shannon Walsh, with questions (swalsh@pvpc.org).
